This four-story structure was originally constructed in 1922 of cast-in-place concrete. The most visible change as a result of the renovation entailed cutting out large sections of each of the floors and roof to open the space into a large, naturally lit atrium in the center of the building. An elegant steel and glass stair was installed in a portion of the opening, creating views from the top floor down to the basement. To seismically upgrade the building, a combination of shotcrete and braces were used. The braces were installed in openings along the south exterior wall, providing an impressive contrast between what is historic and what is new.
